The Nueces River Authority is governed by a 22-member Board of Directors, appointed by the Governor with the advice and consent of the Senate. Each member serves 6-year terms or until a successor has been appointed. Member terms are staggered, with one-third of the directors taking office on February 1 of each off-number year. The Board’s membership is comprised of four members who are residents of Nueces County, two members of San Patricio County, and two members who are residents of Jim Wells County. Not more than two persons who reside in any other county which lies wholly or partly within the authority may be appointed to serve on the Board at the same time.

Officers of the Nueces River Authority are President; a Vice President from the Upper Basin; a Vice President from the Lower Basin, a Secretary-Treasurer, all of whom shall be members of the Board of Directors; and an Executive Director, who need not be a member of the Board of Directors.

The Board meets quarterly, with all meetings being posted in compliance with the Open Meetings Act of the State of Texas. All meetings of the Board of Directors and all committee meetings are open to the public.
